Background

DJ Mackie originally began hist training in 2007 under then UMAOC owner and head trainer Dustin Davis. During this time he competed in several grappling tournaments including several NAGA’s and Casco Grossa tournaments. After some time with Davis, DJ decided to make the move to Daytona Beach, FL to train with WEC and UFC veteran Richard Crunkilton. He studied Nova Uniao BJJ directly underneath Crunkilton and his muay thai under Mike Vazquez. During his 4 year stay in Florida he was able to train with some very high profile competitors including BJJ world champion Guybson Sa and several professional and amateur fighters.

DJ also won several tournaments during his stay in Florida and comes back to Crossville as a former Florida BJJ Open champion.  DJ decided to make the move back to Crossville in November on 2011 after the birth of his daughter and is now the head BJJ instructor at Ultimate Martial Arts of Crossville.
